MATTERHORN (2013) Diederik Ebbinge

It's impossible for me to define Matterhorn : it's a drama, a comedy. It's a surreal film, certainly, but with a very precise and determined narrative line.
There is friendship, love, but also a lot of loneliness and intolerance.
For the first twenty minutes, I didn't understand much of what was happening, but the beautiful images kept me attentive and engaged.
Then, slowly but surely, the plot takes shape, until it becomes a clear and linear story: the story of two people who come into contact, Fred and Theo.
Watching this film gave me the same feeling I get from reading a complicated poem, which I don't understand at first, but which slowly becomes clearer and clearer until it reaches my soul.
In the lives of each of them there seems to be no room for the other, one closed in his own madness and the other in the mental cage generated by religious beliefs and dogmas.
The huge difference between the lifestyles of both protagonists ( the two actors and the entire cast are fabulous ) becomes the common ground on which the two will confront each other, creating their own language and even an entertainment profession.
The camera is always didactic, the photography is beautiful. A film designed for TV with a direction typical of big-screen films.
Highly recommended for those who love Kaurismaki 's films .
